There is a real pleasure in holding and looking through a handmade photo book, even more so if you made it yourself. Photo books are a great way to show your images to your friends and family and to keep your images outside of a computer. In this dark-age of photography where our electronic images will be lost to future generations, now is your chance to create something permanent and personal. Unlike prints, you don't need to find space on your walls, there is always enough space on a book shelf for just one more book....

This workshop is aimed at beginners and intermediates. If you have never made a book before, we will coach you through every step. We will help you to select, sequence, edit and print images from a set that you bring to the workshop. From the final selection, you will create a Leporello style book with end papers and covers finished in a material from our varied selection of papers and cloths. If you have some experience of book making, we can discuss options for going off-piste! We will be printing your images onto high quality photographic papers rather than sticking them in.  We will explore different ideas for creating end papers. You will also receive comprehensive support materials to help you make more books at home.

We have included 2-nights B&B so that you can travel down and join us to see a little of our wonderful coast on the first afternoon. We will then spend the following 2-days selecting images, editing, printing and making the book.

Your tutors

Clea's parents were antiquarian book dealers and she was brought up in a bookshop. Her dad still runs a bookshop today. After early retirement, Clea re-connected with her love of book making and taught Adrian how to make them too. Whilst this is a new addition to the portfolio, you are in good hands as we have led quite a few workshops over the past 18-months. Adrian brings his editing and printing skills to the workshop, helping you to select, edit and print your book pages to the highest standard.

Location, Accommodation, Transport

The workshop is based at Kingsdown House, Bideford, North Devon. You will be staying at the Royal Hotel in Bideford on a single occupancy B&B basis.
