Clea and I have been running workshops that include handmade books for a number of years now and we have found more and more clients keen to get involved. Our face to face workshops are limited to those who can travel to the venues so we wondered if an online group focused on hand made books might be fun to try. So here we are!

My longer term group workshops in B&W and Lightroom have been really popular and it's evident that they deliver long lasting learning, so it feels right to bring our book making into this format

We will be completely honest - this is an experiment and we don't exactly know how it will go but we know it will be fun!

It takes time and practice to master new ideas, so we have scheduled plenty of time between sessions and created a longer form workshop focused on handmade books. We will use homework to help you cement ideas and explore possibilities. Within sessions, there will be the opportunity to share your work and discuss problems, helping you to build deeper understanding.

Our plan is to help you start with some basic photo books and progress to more elaborate designs and techniques. We want to focus on handmade books, so we won't spend lots of time on detailed image editing or sequencing - those subjects are covered well in my other workshops. We will look at some tools that support creating the content, such as Affinity and possibly printing.

We have planned 6 sessions which are spaced at least 4 weeks apart. Each session will be 3hrs long (with a break).

In the first half you will be able to share your homework, any new work you may have completed and seek help and support from Clea, myself and the group.

In the second half we will introduce a new topic or two and explain the homework.

Each session's homework will be connected to the subjects just taught. You will have at least 4 weeks to try the new ideas out so you can share your work at the next session.

Every session will be recorded and posted to you along with a short summary of what was covered and details of the homework. These videos will be a great way to recap and also invaluable if you are unable to make a particular session.
