Gozo is a little gem of an island squeezed between Malta and Sicily. If you have never been, why not join us on this bookish adventure and bring home some of your impressions in physical form?

Gozo is a small, friendly island just a short ferry trip north from its larger neighbour – Malta and 20 miles south of Sicily. There are only a few sandy beaches here, so it isn’t a destination for the 18-30’s crowd. Instead, you will find a quiet, beautiful island dominated by the warm honey colour coming from the locally mined limestone which is beautifully exaggerated by the rising and setting sun.
Our visit will give you an opportunity to explore the inspiring landscape of the north coast, home to the ancient and modern salt-pans, spectacular smooth limestone cliffs and erroded limestone pavement. This area offers a wide variety of subject matter that works in both colour and black & white, wide angle and especially rewards the detailed eye.
Over several days we will visit and re-visit the north coast giving you an opportunity to review and re-take images, something that I love to do but is rare on workshops. We will visit during sunrise, morning, afternoon and sunset to maximise our chances of great light.
On our last shooting day we will explore the back streets of a local village and may take the opportunity to visit and photograph a unique Museum of Toys owned by Clea’s mother for more than 30 years.
We plan to be out shooting during the cooler hours of the day and use the mid-day periods for image review, editing and making. We will bring a variety of portable printers with us, and the tools and materials needed to create a permanent and unique record of your travels in simple book form.
Agenda
On our meet-up day we will make introductions and confirm the schedule for the remaining week. We plan to be out shooting for 3 days and making a final book on the last day. In between we have planned time for you to review and work on your images and we have planned some other creative activities too.
Reaching Gozo and our Accommodation
We will provide you with reccomended flight information after booking.
If you are not able to travel using our recommended flights or you plan to have some extra time in Malta or Gozo, let us know and we can give you travel advice.
It is very easy to reach Gozo from Malta at any time of day as there is an excellent ferry service that runs 24-hrs.
Location, Accommodation and Transport
We will be staying in a beautiful Gozitan country house with extensive facilities including private pools and a jacuzzi! The house is well located being only 15-minutes drive from our main photographic locations.
You will be staying in a double or twin en-suite room
We will have plenty of room to spread out when working on editing, printing and book making
We will have transport available during the stay
Start and End timing
We will meet for introductions at 5pm on Sunday 19th April and the workshop will finish at 5pm on Thursday 23rd April but we have booked accommodation for our final night.
Check-out is by 10am on the 24th of April.
Accessibility
We will use a minibus to reach our main locations but there is walking needed to explore. Some of the ground around the salt pans can be uneven and slippery in places. This workshop wouldn’t suit clients who tire quickly or need assistance walking. Please ask before booking if you are not sure.
Meals
We will provide breakfast each day and will have tea/coffee/light refreshments available at the house whilst we are working there. We will also provide light lunches using local produce at the house. Our evening meals will be at your expense and will be provided be a selection of excellent local restaurants which are modestly priced. To help you budget, our last group spent between £100 and £200 in total for their entire stay.
Pre-requisites
No previous experience is needed, especially for the editing, printing and book making elements.
