Infrared Capture to Print

Small Group Workshop (4 clients)

North Devon

North Devon offers many opportunities for Infrared photography in Black & White and Colour. Infrared has an ability to capture dramatic skies and I am often drawn to them. More recently, I have been spending time in the amazing dunes we have all along the North Devon coast. I have been exploring ways to capture them in Black & White and also colour.

These images are then developed exclusively using Lightroom. Capturing and editing Infrared images is only slightly different from conventional photography, so you will adapt quickly. You can use Photoshop or Lightroom to process your images but if you are a Lightroom user, I will share with you my unique way to perform channel swap and other channel related changes in Lightroom without the use of Photoshop.

This workshop combines shooting, editing and printing. We are a small group and will divide our time creatively depending on the conditions. The outline plan is for 2 full days of shooting and 1 full day of developing and printing. Our studio offers the very latest A3, A2 and A1 printers from Canon and Epson and fine art papers from Fotospeed. All of the studio facilities are available during the developing and printing day and we have included a material budget for 1-day of printing.

This capture to print workshop will help you to understand the underlying principals of Infrared photography and help you to capture, develop and print your images. We will visit a variety of locations to give you some different subjects to work with.

Equipment note:
While it is possible to use a DSLR with an infrared filter, modern cameras block too much of the IR information to get good images. I highly reccomend using a converted camera for this workshop. If you really want to attend but dont have a converted camera, I have several cameras available to borrow. Please let me know immediately if you want to borrow one.

Agenda
On our meet-up day we will make introductions and discuss the principals of IR capture. We will set up our cameras and make some test shots to confirm setup prior to our main shooting days. We plan to focus on shooting for the first 2 days and focus on editing and printing on the final day.

The workshop is based in North Devon. We will use locations along the coast and inland depending on conditions. The editing and processing day will be held at Kingsdown House in Bideford, the home of Adrian and Clea Beasley.
